This blog is a result of my interest in the people of La Verne (Lordsburg), California and the churches and schools they attended, the businesses they conducted, where they lived, their recreational pursuits and how they governed themselves in a small city in eastern Los Angeles County. My writing will be augmented by articles and advertisements from the La Verne Leader, a former weekly newspaper begun in 1910 as the Lordsburg-La Verne Leader; by advertisements from the Lordsburg/La Verne College Orange Blossom, Lambda and Bonita High School Echoes yearbooks; and by photographs and documents from the La Verne Historical Society, my own collection and public records such as voter registration lists, city directories and censuses.
Of special interest to me are the downtown businesses and the changes that took place over the years. The connections between the various families, although typical of small towns, have fascinated me for years and I continue to make discoveries in that area.
I am still working on the best way to share my resources with you but I look forward to presenting my material and responding to the questions and comments of my readers. May we learn together!
